Benjamin Harrison (Republican) won the 1888 presidential election with 233 of 401 electoral votes, defeating Grover Cleveland (Democratic, 168). Cleveland won the popular vote with 50.4%. Grover Cleveland won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College.
