1868 Presidential Election Results
Ulysses S. Grant (Republican) won the 1868 presidential election with 214 of 294 electoral votes, defeating Horatio Seymour (Democratic, 80). Grant also won the popular vote with 52.7%. Mississippi, Texas and Virginia had not yet been readmitted to the Union and did not vote. Congress was divided over counting Georgia's votes; Grant won either way.
